1. It Sounds Like He's Starting From Scratch
From the sounds of it, this new Spider-Man co-production between Marvel and Sony is going to completely throw out everything established in the last couple of movies. Which means that, just three years after the last reboot (which itself came about four years after Sam Raimi's third Spider-Man film), the franchise is going to be rebooted yet again. This is not a particularly good sign. All reports point to this new Spider-Man returning Peter Parker to high school, totally recasting everyone - Andrew Garfield having been kicked to the curb in favour of a younger, and possibly less white face - and placing things firmly in the MCU. Now, this isn't a problem with Goddard so much as the project as a whole. But is Goddard the right person to establish what Spider-Man is going to be like going forward? Again, he has little experience in directing features of this size. He did well scripting The Cabin In The Woods and Cloverfield, but starting off a franchise is a totally different thing. And again, see how well that went for Marc Webb. Heck, see how well it went for Sam Raimi, a director who had 20+ years of experience when he started. Hopefully it'll all work out for the best, but don't be too shocked if your Spidey Senses start to tingle. What are your thoughts on Drew Goddard taking over Spider-Man? Have a vent down in the comments.
