Spider-Man: 5 Reasons Drew Goddard Is Perfect (And 5 He's Not)

2. Good With Teens

If it's true that Peter Parker is again going to go back to high school, then having Drew Goddard writing the script and directing the film is an inspired choice. Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel continue to have a cult following and that's mainly down to how expertly is represented the target audience, teenagers. Which is to say, they talked and acted like teenagers. Well, maybe teenagers who look a little older and are more eloquent/likely to reference sci-fi movies from before their time, but still. Even though many felt alienated by the opening of Cloverfield - which Goddard wrote - that's actually more in Goddard's favour; it was all young people hanging out, talking like young people do, and doing young people things. If you're not that particular type of young person that can be annoying and obnoxious, but that's what young people are like! Goddard knows that Spidey is considered an annoyance by the superhero community as a whole for a reason.
