Spider-Man: Far From Home - What Does The Multiverse Mean For MCU?

6. Standalone Stories

With the introduction of the multiverse, there's an opportunity for Marvel to get weirder and bolder with regards to the kinds of stories they tell.

In fairness, the studio has never exactly been risk-averse, hence the existence of Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, but things have nonetheless been at least somewhat bound by a need for continuity, at times to the disservice of individual movies.

The multiverse can avoid that problem, because it allows Marvel to tell standalone stories that don't intersect with the mainline MCU. So something like, say, Marvel Zombies could actually happen. Or that Blade movie people have been wanting? The idea of an MCU horror movie that has been kicked around, or something more supernatural? The multiverse could account for that. Funnily enough, this is an approach DC seem to be utilising already: this year's Joker seemingly exists outside of the 'main' continuity of the DCEU, and looks all the better for it. Marvel taking a similar approach to characters and stories would be welcome.
