8. A More Lighthearted Tone

Spider-Man is a character largely defined by wit, sarcasm and most of all a bouncy, lighthearted tone. That's not say Spider-Man should lack sincere drama, but there's a marked difference between a character like Peter Parker - a teenager at high school - and Captain America, a mature (very mature, technically) adult.

Recent Marvel Cinematic Universe releases have included Doctor Strange and Captain America: Civil War, two films containing from the offset serious threat and trauma. Spider-Man: Homecoming should be different. It should contain more whimsy and more innocence, even if these qualities are later shattered.

We need to see evidence in the trailer, then, that Marvel understands this distinction. Show us Peter's relationship with Aunt May, show us the qualities that make him a naive teenager. Show him hanging out with his friends or trying to chat to a girl before upping the drama and introducing Michael Keaton's Vulture.

In fact, while we're on the subject of lightheartedness...
