Spider-Man: Homecoming - 12 Biggest Questions It Leaves Unanswered

2. Was The Timeline Issue A Genuine Mistake?

This is one of the big points that's been raised since the movie was released: towards the start of the film, we're informed that the movie takes place eight years after the Battle of New York.

Given that takes place in May 2012, that would then place this movie - and Captain America: Civil War - in 2020. Except, of course, that changes the entire MCU timeline as we know it, since there are various times the films - especially the Phase Two ones - were grounded in the year of release (or at least near enough then).

There's more detail on it here, but the crux is that it either means that Marvel are massively shifting the timeline and changing dates previously thought of as canon, or it's a big f**k-up that somehow went unnoticed, despite being in huge letters at the beginning of the movie.
