Spider-Man: Homecoming - 26 New Things We Just Learned
15. ...Great Responsibility? Pfffft
As already established, the opening of the film will see Peter testing out the limits of his new suit - one of the only things the film seems to have drawn from the Venom origin comic Homecoming actually - and basically having fun. He's not immediately weighed down by his duty to the city or to being a good guy, as Carroll says:
“Of course, the Spider-Man mythos is what it is, and we’re very beholden to that. But at the same time, if you’re sixteen and you get Spider-Man’s powers, you don’t go straight down the ‘power of responsibility.’ You don’t go straight down the ‘heavy is the head-type’ thing.”
So while the film is definitely going to be about learning not to over-reach and not to rely too much on the idea of heroism rather than actual acts of it, don't expect the usual insistent moralising. This is not a bad thing at all.
