Ned, as played by Jacob Batalon, is Peter's best friend and confidant (a change from the comics, where Ned Leeds is a bit older than Peter, and works as a reporter for the Daily Bugle).

He looks like being one of the funniest elements of the movie, getting the sidekick/best friend role spot-on, and mostly he and Peter just seem like a natural fit together as buddies hanging out, especially when he puts on the mask.
