Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer 2 Reactions - 8 Ups & 2 Downs

1. The Ferry Sequence

The split-open ferry sequence very much looks like the MCU's take on the runaway train sequence from Spider-Man 2 - minus the goofy faces pulled by Tobey Maguire, of course.

Seeing Tom Holland's Spidey trying to single-handedly pull two halves of the huge collapsing boat together might as well be an on-the-nose allegory for the underlying themes of the film, and the traditional take on Spider-Man as a hero split between his school life and his hero work. And though you could perhaps call that symbolism a little rote, seeing hints of a spectacle this magnificent easily distracts from any such cynicism.

It's a little unfortunate that we had to see Tony Stark flying in for the save, but it establishing that Spidey isn't all that great as a hero yet was a good launching point for the trailer - particularly with Civil War's issues still burning bright.
