Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer - 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. Not Another Spider-Man Movie

Since 2002 we have had five whole movies featuring our friendly neighbourhood vigilante. The first time seeing Spider-Man web swinging across New York city was a dream come true for so many comic book fans, not to mention being completely unlike anything the uninitiated had seen before on screen. The problem is we've seen it now - lots of it.

A Spider-Man movie no longer provokes the reaction it once did and after five movies all featuring similar stories and action beats we're edging ever closer to repetitiveness. The final shot from the trailer, our hero holding together a damaged boat with his trusty webbing, looks so similar to what's come before (most notably the Spider-Man 2 train sequence) that it does not have the awe-inspiring effect it should.

Hopefully the character changes along with the tonal shift will revitalise the Spider-Man franchise, but at the moment huge chunks of it threaten to simply be more of the same.
