21. Peter, MJ & Ned Get Cancelled

With Peter being revealed as Spider-Man and both the media and general public turning against him, it's little surprise that he ends up getting rejected from MIT for reasons of conduct.

The unfortunate knock-on effect, however, is that MJ and Ned are basically perceived as guilty by association, that they were the evil Spider-Man's confederates who aided his mission.

And so, MJ and Ned are similarly rejected by MIT, the trio effectively being "cancelled" at the start of the movie, and to rub salt in the wound, Flash ends up getting accepted to the institution.

The precariousness of their futures is ultimately what sets the rest of the movie in motion, prompting Peter to pay a visit to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and request that he cast a spell to make the world forget that he's Spider-Man.
