Spider-Man No Way Home: Ending Explained

Before we get into the cosmic consequences of the movie's final moments, the main story beat is that everyone has now forgotten about who Peter Parker is. MJ and Ned don't recognise him in our closing scene, Jameson is all over TV demanding Spider-Man reveal his identity, and even Happy Hogan asks him how he knew Aunt May when they meet over her grave. In a wonderfully bittersweet slice of poetic irony, Peter does indeed get his "fresh start" that he spent the first act craving. Albeit now as a total stranger to the people he loves.

Despite taking a hefty-looking hand-written note to MJ's coffee shop in an apparent attempt to try and help her remember the life they had, he instead decides against going through with it. Leaving his two best friends to embark upon their lives, and college courses, without him.

Cutting to a run-down (although if you've ever lived in New York you'll know that he's actually hit the goddamn jackpot somehow finding a studio apartment all to himself... in the city... as a teenager!) room with a relatively bleak future, Parker whiles away some time at the old sewing machine before closing the film webbing around the city in the iconic 616 suit. That might seem like a small detail, but with every movie trying to put its own spin on his costume, seeing Tom Holland in what is the undeniable classic look for the character is a wonderful moment of fan service in a movie that's almost entirely fan service.

And that's that. After all of the adventures through time and space, Peter Parker is now living out his life as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, having learned the hard way that the power he possesses can't be wielded without consequence. But what does that mean for the entire MCU going forward...?
