Stan Lee WILL Appear In Avengers 4
Marvel supremo had filmed cameos for Captain Marvel and the Infinity War sequel.
Yesterday, the comic book world was rocked by the passing of one of its pillars when Stan Lee died at the age of 95. As attention inevitably turns to his legacy and what he meant to entire generations of fans and creators alike, it's important to also acknowledge what the immediate future might hold for the Marvel icon.
With his death, the MCU (and indeed other Marvel movies) will lose a trademark element that has come to be definitive of the series: Lee's often delightful cameos. He has appeared in every MCU movie to date, prompting theories that he was actually an omniscient Watcher figure (something semi-confirmed by Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, in fact), but now his watch is over.
Well, not quite, actually.
Because of the way Lee's cameos tended to be filmed, it seems we will see him at least a couple more times before that book is closed for good. We already know, thanks to Joe Russo, that he filmed his Avengers 4 cameo at the same time as his Ant-Man And the Wasp appearance...
"So, Stan, typically we try to get him out — he doesn't love to fly — so we try to get him out for his cameos around the same time. So if we have other movies shooting on the same lot that we're on, for instance Ant-Man 2 or Avengers 4, we group his cameos together and then move him from one set to the next and kind of get him through his cameos in one day."
That timeline would also suggest that he's probably going to appear in Captain Marvel, since that comes before Avengers 4 (and would have been filmed long ago).
There will inevitably be questions over Spider-Man: Far From Home, which was in production before his death, but there's been no confirmation either way on that front. There's every possibility he might appear in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in at least a vocal performance. You'd have to suspect that there will be a tribute to him in some way in those films, though, just as everything else coming up will probably carry a dedication at the very least.
And then there's the question of the X-Men movies. In the past, Lee appeared in X-Men, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Apocalypse, both Deadpool movies and The Gifted TV series, so there's a chance he could be set for appearances in both New Mutants and Dark Phoenix, which have long-since finished filming. Or at least initial filming - who knows what sort of reshooting might still be coming from those two?!
So, it may be that we have around five more cameos from Stan Lee coming in Marvel movies. Either way, let's all hope that Avengers 4 becomes a true celebration of his life and work.
