Star Trek: 10 Alien Races That Only Appeared Once

Enterprise tended to stick close to Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans, Andorians and Xindi across its four seasons. Hidden amongst them were some standout solo appearances for an occasional alien and one of the few were North Star's subservient Skaggs.

Offering a similar premise to Voyager's The 37's, we had humans abducted from Earth who then rebelled against their captors. In that instance the wardens fled, but here they switched hierarchical positions with the humans. This in turn led to the continuation of an Ancient West lifestyle with added alien influence. I could have selected one of the races from A Piece of the Action, Patterns of Force or Miri but an episode that really encapsulated Gene Roddenberry's Wagon Train to the Stars concept could not be avoided.

The Skaggs are not the biggest makeup challenge of the show, but the concept of an alien race within a human-centric, historic environment was a master stroke. No other Star Trek series went with such a close visual fit to the original Roddenberry ethos plus it dealt with the divisions in society that would have fitted so well in the frame of The Original Series.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
