Star Trek 3: 10 Aliens That Have To Appear

9. The Horta

the horta With the Enterprise (I€™m assuming) on its five-year mission in the third film, I would love to see some fun, imaginative takes on old episodes. After all, what fun is a reboot if you can€™t put your own spin on original material? Yes, I know they did this with Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness but seemed a little too obvious for me. They€™re plenty of small stories that could be adapted. Take the Horta from the first season episode The Devil In The Dark. Now I€™m not saying this alien is worthy enough to fill the plot of an entire movie. After all it€™s not much more than a giant blob of silicon that fed on rocks. But it was still memorable because it didn€™t fit the €˜norm€™ of the majority of other aliens that appeared on the show. I would be very happy if the film began on Janus IV, the crew dealing with a menace that is tunnelling through the mining operation, killing hapless miners. It could be a rather thrilling opening. But more importantly, I would love for the Horta appear just to have Karl Urban channel his inner Deforest Kelly with the immortal lines €˜I€™m a doctor, not a bricklayer€™ and €˜By golly Jim! I€™m beginning to think I can cure a rainy day!€™
