5. New Enterprise
The design of the Enterprise has not been a massive hit. Where the original design by Matt Jeffries is considered a design classic, the Abramsprise is like a strange mash-up of the original and refit design seen in the first six movies. Some of the problems with this design are the oversized warp engines that look like hair dryers, the weird curvy struts they sit on, the misplaced neck that is too far back, and the fact that the secondary hull is basically one huge shuttle bay. It all adds up to a ship that looks a mess. Nothing sexy about it. In Into Darkness, the ship got a major kicking from the USS Vengeance and was left in a pretty bad shape. That gave Abrams the chance to give the Enterprise the redesign it so badly needs. The good news is that he did redesign it, but the bad news is that he made it look even worse. We now have even more useless lights on the warp engines, a millennium falcon style impulse engine has been added and everything else is exactly the same. Brilliant. Those hoping for a better looking enterprise in Star Trek 3 will be left disappointed.
