Star Trek 3: Rating 10 Candidates To Direct

9. Matthew Vaughn

matthewvaughn600 Matthew Vaughn has really grown in prominence over the last few years. Ever since Kick-Ass, his number of fans have been steadily rising. While Layer Cake is a well liked film, his eminence didn't come until he really found his footing in the super hero genre. He really cracked the mainstream by finally getting to direct an X-Men film with 2011's X-Men: First Class. While I never believed it for a second, there was so much talk about Vaughn having signed on to direct the new Star Wars trilogy before it was announced JJ Abrams took the job. However, for me, I just can't see Matthew Vaughn taking up Star Trek. While, it isn't clear if Matthew Vaughn even wanted Star Wars when it was on the table, it seems like he was at least in the conversation. I can't see him wanting to jump to what some might see as Star War 'lite'. Also, Vaughn is currently gearing up for The Secret Service, the next Mark Millar comic book adaption. On top of that, he is also on board to produce the new Josh Trank Fantastic Four film, so it seems he has enough on his plate as it is. People will throw his name out there, but personally, I just don't see it. Pros: Always a part of the conversation, Has the Pedigreee Cons: May not want to do it, The Secret Service, Maybe an Awkward fit Grade: D+
