Star Trek 3: Rating 10 Candidates To Direct

6. Edgar Wright

edgarwright600 Bit of trivia that is likely to come up in film pub quizes down the line. Edgar Wright actually directed a shot in Star Trek Into Darkness. We don't know exactly which shot it is, but we know it takes place on the Klingon homeworld. So we can add that to his resume of suitable for Trek. Edgar Wright has a massive fan base and quite rightly. He made the much loved Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and would certainly get a bunch of people excited about the next film if he decided to take it on. Known for his visual inventiveness and flair, his hyperactive camera choices would fit the Abram's Trek incredibly well. He also has a deep friendship with Simon Pegg who is becoming a bigger part of the franchise. On top of that he is well respected by tons of the top filmmakers and I could see Abrams and crew lobbying to get him aboard the SS Enterprise. However, that doesn't mean he would take it. He has Marvel's Ant-Man coming up which has been in preproduction for years and is definitely part of Marvel's Phase 3 plans so he would have to complete that contract. This is even before we consider if he would do it. Ant-Man will be his first foray into franchise territory and from what I understand he will be given a fair bit of freedom from Marvel. Paramount may be less inclined to let Edgar Wright run wild in an already established Abrams style. Pros: A good fit, History with franchise, Simon Pegg, Well revered in the industry Cons: Ant-Man, May not have the freedom he wishes, May want to focus on own projects Grade: C-
