3. Brad Bird
This almost feels like a formality. Brad Bird's name seems to come up now when ever anyone says anything about trying to find a director. As soon as it was announced that Disney were looking to continue the Star Wars series with Episode VII, his was the name I saw at the top of most people's list. It is not hard to see why. Mission Impossible 4 was a franchise best and he is the director of one of my most beloved animated films The Iron Giant. There is some founding for Brad Bird to be taking up the directors spot on Star Trek 3. He has a relationship with many people on the film. Obviously he took over the reigns of Mission Impossible 4 from JJ Abrams, who produced that film. He is also currently setting up to direct Tomorrowland which is being written by Star Trek scribe and producer Damon Lindelof. So it is not a stretch to think that Brad Bird will be far from at least Bad Robot's minds. However, as I mentioned before, Brad Bird is currently busy at Disney working on Tomorrowland which should go into production before too long. Although that doesn't mean that he still won't be working on the film when Paramount are ready, especially if they try and hit the 2015 that Lindelof has suggested. Also, I fully suspect Disney wanting Brad Bird doing a Star Wars film, definitely so if Tomorrowland turns out great. I could definitely see that as a race for his signature between the two big sci-fi franchises. Pros: Connection to Producers, Worked for Bad Robot before, Proved over and over that he is one of Hollywood's best talents Cons: Tomorrowland, 2015 release date, Star Wars? Grade: B
