Star Trek Beyond Trailer Beams In!

Yes, that's Idris Elba.

Paramount have released the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond. It's a short one, but there's plenty here to absorb. Namely the fact that Justin Lin has brought all his action movie stylings from the Fast And Furious franchise and inserted them firmly into Gene Roddenberry's world. If you wanted to see Captain Kirk ride a dirtbike around an alien planet during a shootout, you are in luck. Have a look for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRVD32rnzOw Well. I'm not sure how Trekkies are going to feel about this one - this feels like even more of an action movie than the first two did, and some of the goodwill that J.J. Abrams built up for the franchise may have just dissipated before our eyes. There's a lot to get excited about here, though. Idris Elba is unrecognisable as the big bad and he gets the coolest dialogue in the trailer. The humour that worked so well in the first two instalments in the rebooted series also looks to still be in place - perhaps due to Simon Pegg's involvement in scriptwriting duties this time out. It also looks like he may have written himself an action sequence there with the part where he almost takes a nosedive off a cliff. What do you think of the trailer? Has Star Trek gone too action-y? Or do you feel like they're merely continuing a tone set by Abrams? Sound off in the comments below. Star Trek Beyond is released on 22 July 2016.
