2. Kirk Earns The Chair
Let's all be honest here, Kirk had not truly earned the Captain's chair by the end Star Trek in 2009. With a threat like John Harrison, it seems as though Kirk will have to prove that he deserves to sit in the center seat on the bridge. The marketing has done a fairly decent job of showing that Kirk does indeed have a lot left to learn before he can reach his full potential as a Captain of a Federation Star Ship. There's a great moment in the most recent trailer where Kirk turns to the crew on the bridge and says "I'm sorry." It's an almost heartbreaking and clearly humbling moment for the audience and the young Captain as he comes to grips with the fact that he may have just cost the lives of everyone on his ship. If that moment is any inclination of the types of things we can expect to see Kirk go through in Into Darkness, I'm confident we will see the greatest ship leader in science-fiction rise to the challenge and silence any of those who may doubt that he deserves the center seat.
