7. Don't Forget The Funny!
I won't deny for one moment that the overwhelming majority of the Into Darkness marketing has existed in the despair and ominous ends of the spectrum. I also understand why the film has been marketed as such. They are attempting to show that the stakes are higher and the scope is larger. You probably won't find many Harry Mudd-like characters in this sequel. However, I am very confident that you will still find the quippy one-liners and occasional funny moments we were accustomed to in the 2009 film. Although I've only seen 18 minutes of footage and the trailers, I have every confidence in the world that the same great humor will be back again. Good humor is one of the staples of Trek and there's no way these filmmakers could get away with a complete dark and somber film. I will say that in one of the scenes that I got a chance to see at CinemaCon, the humor was nearly relentless right along side the pulse-pounding action that was taking place. I have no doubt the same great Trek that the vast majority of audiences loved back in 2009 will return again in a couple weeks.
