Star Trek Into Darkness: 7 Reasons Why It's Underwhelming

5. A Klingon Disappointment

Star Trek Into Darkness The Klingons are second on the short list of famous TOS villains, thanks to their numerous appearances on the show and in the TOS films. In fact, they were supposed to be in ST09, but all their scenes were (thankfully) left on the cutting room floor (if you€™re wondering why this is a good thing, realize that the film implied the Klingons had the Narada for 25 years and got nothing from it). But Star Trek into Darkness sorted everything out and made them a major part of the plot. So it€™s all good, right? Not really. While the Klingons are the reason why Admiral Marcus decides to make Khan his lackey (they€™re a major threat to the Federation) and Khan does hide on Qo€™nos, the Klingon homeworld, Klingons don€™t really do anything. A Bird of Prey chases the ship Kirk and company use to search for Khan and Khan kills a bunch of Klingons, but that€™s it. Both events make the Klingons look like an insignificant threat, making us question why Marcus even needed to bother with getting Khan to design weapons and tech to fight them. With a Federation/Klingon war apparently going to be the next film, JJ Abrams and company will have to do some major leg work to rehab the Klingons into a serious threat for the Enterprise and her crew.
