Star Trek Into Darkness: JJ Abrams' 9 Point Guide To Rebooting A Franchise

7. LOL @ Science

Narada_destroyed Science has always been important to Star Trek. When the Original Series was in pre-production, one of the main criteria set by Gene Roddenberry was that the science on the show had to be believable. But that was old Star Trek and JJ Abrams knows that to attract people who still can€™t figure out how their remote control switches channels on their TV, he needs to forget about making science in Star Trek believable. He knows that not everyone is concerned about the science in science fiction. Not everyone cares about the physics of submerging a ship underwater or how black holes really work. That is why supernovas can threaten whole galaxies even though there is no way that is fathomly possible. That is why Scotty is worried that the Enterprise will not be able to survive the heat from a volcano even though it has to endure much more extreme temperatures in space. And that is why they are using a €˜€™cold fusion device€™€™ to cool a volcano when in reality it would have the opposite effect. JJ RULEZ
No one gives a crap about science, especially in the world of action blockbusters. Who cares what a black hole or supernova does in real life; just make it up as you go along. You have your set pieces planned, all you need to worry about is linking them together the easiest way possible. So if it means claiming a supernova can destroy a whole galaxy, then write that shit into the script. Remember ''Red Matter?'' WTF was ''Red Matter??'' LOL.
