Star Trek: Ranking All 13 Movie Soundtracks

12. Star Trek Nemesis – Jerry Goldsmith

One of Jerry Goldsmith's final films before his death in 2004, Star Trek Nemesis is an ambitious score for "A Generation's Final Journey", which sadly falls flat.

Carrying his title march from Star Trek: The Motion Picture into its fifth film (and third Star Trek: The Next Generation-centered entry) as well as the "A Busy Man" motif from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Star Trek: First Contact, Goldsmith's Star Trek Nemesis infuses the film with moody, Blade Runner-esque electronics, fitting the film's darker tone.

Unfortunately, there's a distinct lack of energy in Star Trek Nemesis' recording, no better demonstrated than in the tepid, off-key performance of Goldsmith's signature TMP/TNG march in "A New Ending", the film's end credits suite. Even "Final Flight", the major action set piece and highlight of the soundtrack, lacks the energy of Goldsmith's previous contributions.

Star Trek Nemesis has some beautiful material, like the mournful theme for Shinzon and a bittersweet version of the previously mentioned "A Busy Man" motif in "My Right Arm", but these musical moments fail to lift Star Trek Nemesis out of mediocrity in the way Goldsmith's scores did for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and even Star Trek: Insurrection.
