Star Trek's 10 Most Iconic English Villains

3. Tom Hardy - Praetor Shinzon

Appearing in no less than 5 films last year, including both Mad Max: Fury Road and Oscar success The Revenant, it's fair to say that Tom Hardy's career has reached stratospheric levels. He was first brought to the world's attention back in 2002 however, when the then unknown was cast both opposite, and in contrast, to Patrick Stewart in Star Trek Nemesis.

While it may not have lived up to the expectations of either fans or critics, essentially ending the entire TNG saga not with a bang but a whimper, the fact it showed so early on that Hardy was able to shine in such a central role almost makes the whole sordid affair worthwhile. Able to hold his own against Stewart in all their scenes together, of which almost all vary in nature, it's easy to forget he was just 25 at the time of its release. From open armed diplomacy to outright hostility, Hardy brings a chilling sense of intimidation to a character who is as close to Jean-Luc as you can get, separated only by the fact that he "was lonely."

Facing up to his own clone may have been Picard's ultimate confrontation, although it has to be said that as an actor, Patrick Stewart's had come several years earlier...
