Star Wars: 10 Most Underrated Sequences

10. Watto Zings Jedi - The Phantom Menace

One of the advantages Lucas saw in resurrecting Star Wars in the late Nineties was the freedom afforded him by CGI, enabling him to create characters who wouldn't have been possible a decade previously. One of the major new additions was Watto, the Gonzo-esque scrap dealer who owns young Anakin and his mother in Episode I. Whilst the likes of young Jabba fell flat with the diehards, Watto was a small but pivotal part of the action, with a great vocal performance by Andy Secombe. He's not reviled like Binks, but he doesn't get his share of the credit either, so here he is fluttering into the Top 10 for a crowd-pleasing sequence. Lucas's attempts at humour were generally about as funny as a lightsaber through the nutsac, but he got it right with Watto. A perfect example of this is when smug Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) attempts to waft his mystical charms in the Toydarian's direction, only to be rebuffed by the miniature, mind-trick reistant hoodwinker. Not only is it genuinely amusing, it also sees the franchise creator mocking his nest egg and illustrating that maybe this wasn't quite the world we were looking for...
