Star Wars: 10 Reasons Return Of The Jedi Isn't As Perfect As You Remember

4. The Middle Act Is Just Plain Dull

We think we’ve basically covered this one already, but it’s so noticeable and grating that it’s worth mentioning in a point of its own. Maybe it’s the lack of banter, maybe it’s the shoddy dialogue, or maybe it’s the slow pacing of the scenes on Endor, but the movie’s middle act just drags.

Our heroes being captured by a race of little furry bears who go on to mistake C-3PO for a God should, on paper, be the movie’s highlight, but Star Wars’ strangest scene is just a light (though not very entertaining) respite for what feels like hours of slow drudgery through an anonymous forest planet. Jabba’s Palace scene might have been relatively inconsequential, but at least it doesn’t have us reaching for the fast-forward button or our phones.

Luke and Leia’s weird sibling moment aside, nothing really happens for a good portion of the film, and coming on the back of two movies which revolutionised Hollywood and the idea of the cinematic set piece, Return of the Jedi is, at times, noticeably boring.
