Star Wars: 10 Reasons The Prequel Trilogy Is Better Than You Remember

2. Better Lightsaber Duels

The original trilogy certainly has a lot going for it, however there are moments when the limitations of the times are glaringly obvious.

One particular area that leaves fans feeling slightly unfulfilled is the lightsaber duels. The prequels are lightyears ahead of the OT in this department and there's something for everyone, no matter what your preferred flavour of lightsaber combat may be.

Anakin and Obi-Wan's battle on Mustafar is a marvel, and you can feel the years spent together as student and master. The hostile environment around them is incorporated in to the duel and serves almost as a third combatant with no allegiance to either man. Even the CGI heavy battle between Master Yoda and Darth Sidious is faster paced than anything in A New hope, The Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi.

The First Battle of Geonosis in Attack of the Clones, also offers something new in that it is the first time we get to see the Jedi in vast numbers battling side by side. It's well executed, and while not as slick or technical as other battles in the saga, it's still fresh and exciting to witness the Jedi order at the height of its power.

Speaking of fresh takes on lightsaber combat, it's impossible not to mention Darth Maul taking on Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo. Darth Maul igniting both ends of his double-bladed lightsaber is both terrifying and completely unexpected. In the words of the Chancellor himself, a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

Craig Pollock hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
