Star Wars: 10 Secrets Of The Millennium Falcon You Need To Know
1. It Contains Ferrari & Tank Parts
Though we may not know the canonical material composition of the Falcon, some of the models of the ship built for the original trilogy contain components that are a little closer to home.
During production of A New Hope, the first Industrial Light & Magic facility was located close to a distributor of model kits for cars, rockets, aircraft, and so on.
And so, rather than purpose-build components from scratch while constructing the first version of the Falcon, ILM's effects wizards decided to repurpose parts from various model kits from companies such as Revell and Tamiya to create Star Wars' distinctive spaceships and other vehicles.
And so, much of the Falcon's middle-section was actually created using model parts from both a Ferrari 312 and various tanks.
Better still, when it came to creating smaller models for shooting, ILM were able to use the same kits, because they were handily also sold in half-scale versions.
