Star Wars: 10 Secrets Of The Millennium Falcon You Need To Know
6. The Strange Cockpit Placement Has One Practical Purpose
Another of the Falcon's quirks which fans have been debating for literally decades is the decision to have the ship's cockpit on the starboard (right) side of the ship, rather than in the center of the vessel as seemingly makes more practical sense.
Though this creates obvious visibility and tactical disadvantages - giving Luke a semi-obscured view of the port (left) side, for one - the cockpit placement serves the purposes of the ship's original utility as a cargo pusher.
As mentioned earlier, the ship's mandibles can be used to hold large cargo outside of the ship, but given that the mandibles are located at the front-center of the vessel, it would be hugely impractical if not impossible for the cockpit to be located at the center also.
Though this isn't at all ideal for the Falcon's frequent space combat exursions, it's functional enough for the vehicle's original utility as a freight ship.
