Star Wars: 10 Strange Laws ALL Empire Employees Follow
4. Endangered Species Must Be Preserved At All Costs
The much-loved 1998 strategy game Star Wars: Rebellion - which, like all pre-2014 Star Wars video games, is now part of the Legends continuity - introduced fans to the concept of the Imperial Species Preservation Zone, a designation given to planets which contain specific endangered species that the Empire wishes to protect.
Civilian travel to planets given ISPZ status is heavily restricted by the Empire, while Imperial soldiers are naturally obligated not to bring harm to the rare indigenous creatures residing on said planets.
This is all well and good, except it completely glosses over the fact that both the Empire and its successor, the First Order, have no qualms whatsoever about obliterating planets with giant superweapons, with nary a care for the species - human or otherwise - living on them.
This feels very much like one of those "do as I say, not as I do" situations, even if the blatant hypocrisy of a genocidal outfit bleating on about preservation is completely laughable.
