Star Wars: 10 Things Fans Need To Know About Admiral Thrawn

9. Thrawn Is Not His Real Name

Because of the inherent racism spewed across the empire, not many people care to learn of Thrawn's actual name.

Due to the Chiss sentence structure and culture, Thrawn is simply a way of making it easier to pronounce for other people. His full Chiss name is Mitth'raw'nuruado.

As such, whenever Thrawn interacts with the Chiss Admiral Ar'alani, they break the name into several parts by pronouncing the name in thirds. When referring to Eli Vanto they pronounce the name as Eli Van'do.

The only person in the entire empire to refer to Thrawn by his full name is none other than Emperor Palpatine.

Given Palpatine's fascinations of ancient cultures he never fails to correctly pronounce the Grand Admiral's name. Palpatine is also one of the only members of the empire to see past Thrawn's race.
