Star Wars: 10 Things The Last Jedi Has To Explain

5. Where Did Rey Come From?

Rey's reluctance to leave Jakku is based on the fact she's waiting for her family to return - a family who, according to the hints from her flashback vision, left her behind on Jakku and departed via spaceship.

Then it turns out Rey is a Force prodigy so powerful she learns how to mind trick a stormtrooper in about thirty seconds, as well as fighting Kylo Ren to a standstill.

The Last Jedi has some explaining to do.

For Rey's existence not to be a titanic coincidence, her origins need to make sense. Did Luke know of her and leave her on Jakku to keep her safe, aware of her potential power and the consequences if she was corrupted? Who are her family where did they go, and why did they leave her with absolutely nothing on a Force-forsaken dusthole? Why did the plot-critical information on Luke just happen to be on a planet where a unique Force prodigy lived, within a short trundle for BB8?

If Rey's existence continues to make no sense, it could do immeasurable harm to the series.
