Star Wars: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Finn

7. The New Hope Reference In His Number

Star Wars The Last Jedi Finn Tom Hardy

While he would ultimately be re-christened Finn by his new Resistance pal Poe Dameron during the pair's First Order escape, this trooper actually didn't have a name at all for much of his life.

Instead, he went by the number FN-2187. Though he was given the creative nickname of "Eight Seven" by his fellow cadets. Far from simply being a random collection of digits, however, the numbers that followed FN were actually a little reference to Star Wars' past.

Back when Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca rescued Princess Leia on the Death Star during A New Hope, it was revealed that Organa was locked inside of cell 2187.

And that number was actually a nod to a short film called 21-87 directed by Arthur Lipsett, one that helped inspire George Lucas to make his THX-1138 feature, with those digits also being used for a cell number in A New Hope, too!

So, there you have it, Finn and the general he'd ultimately serve under shared a rather bizarre numerical connection.
