When we first met Din Djarin way back in the first series of The Mandalorian, we learned that a childhood experience with a Super Battle Droid had left him traumatised and distrustful of all droids. Maybe it was his time looking after Grogu, but Din has since mellowed, and that’s never been more apparent than in the recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett when he is interacting with all of the droids in the workshop while repairing the Naboo N-1 Starfighter.

Despite this change of outlook, engineer Peli Motto told Djarin that she had pre-emptively hollowed out the droid port, telling him, “I figured with your disposition, you’d want to forgo the astromech.”

With the likelihood being that Din Djarin will fly the revamped and modified Naboo N-1 Starfighter straight to Grogu when The Mandalorian returns, it seems highly possible that Grogu will sit where an R2 unit would’ve once been. This does mean Mando and his new ship could be at a disadvantage as the on-board astromech droid played a vital role in ship repairs and flight navigation during the N-1 Starship heyday.
