Star Wars: 10 Times Obi-Wan Kenobi Broke His Own Rules
Even the noblest of Jedi knights can break their own oaths.
One of the greatest Jedi to serve peace and justice across the galaxy, Obi-Wan Kenobi has been seen as a proud and loyal knight who defends the innocent against the dark side of the Force. Whether it's facing off against countless droids from the Separatist army in the prequel film trilogy or defending a young Princess Leia against the power-hungry Inquisitors in his own television series, Obi-Wan risked his own life over and over again while grasping to the Jedi's code.
Despite his nobility and trying to stay true to his faith, there are instances where Kenobi has broken the ancient oaths of the Jedi code he swore to oblige to follow in order for a mission of great importance to succeed for the Republic he serves. This galactic knight found himself in dire situations that would force him to confront the emotional impulses that Jedi must not act upon.
Furthermore, Kenobi even goes against his own personal rules and promises that he gave to those that were often looked up to and respected among the Jedi council. The decision to break them may have led to some fun adventures throughout the episodes of the multiple television shows that he stars in, but they could only be done by going against these personal commitments.
Many love Obi-Wan and the actors who have played this iconic character since his introduction back in the seventies with A New Hope. However, their performances and the writers who created these brilliant stories for the Star Wars franchise surrounding this particular protagonist show that even he isn't immune to personal faults and making some grave mistakes with dire implications.
10. Telling Leia About Her Parents
Throughout the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the young Princess Leia and the older Obi-Wan go on an adventure across a galaxy that is teaming with villainous Stormtroopers and Inquisitors, as they try to safely return home while evading capture. Despite the dangers and friends they meet along the way, they build a strong connection as he slowly embraces his responsibilities as a Jedi once more.
In the finale, before he returns to his duties on Tatooine, Kenobi and Leia have one last conversation as he tells her of the beautiful qualities that she inherited from her parents, who meant so much to him during his years as a Jedi knight. On a touching note, it not also set up their reunion in the film, A New Hope, but brought closure to both their arcs in the series as Obi-Wan confronts his past and Leia discovers more about herself.
Despite giving fans more backstory as to how she would know him in A New Hope, and call for his aid, this also goes against his own sworn duties to stay hidden to watch over and protect Luke Skywalker, Leia's twin brother. While she may not know about his existence, her secret message to Obi-Wan would put him and other people in grave danger. And all because Obi-Wan just couldn't resist saying no to such a sweet face.
