Star Wars: 14 Crazy Rumours Lucasfilm Started About The Empire Strikes Back In 1980
8. Prowse Isn't Playing Vader
Not dissimilar to how production difficulties and set rumours are just as big as plot hints, Miller threw in some false behind-the-scenes tidbits in there too, understanding fan interest goes beyond the movies to how they're made. The biggest one hints at, without exploding, a little casting scandal:
body was played by Dave Prowse and his voice by James Earl Jones. Which brings to mind another rumor that Dave Prowse will not be playing Vader in the new movie. (Once again, Lucasfilm broke silence to specifically deny this; Prowse is playing Vader.)
What's interesting here is that, despite Lucasfilm's denial, it's kinda true - while Prowse did play Vader throughout the original trilogy, for the stunt-heavy action scenes the Sith was played by Bob Anderson, showing just how tricksy all this was.
