Star Wars: 15 Show-Stealing Side Characters Who Shaped The Galaxy

3. Finn

In The Force Awakens, fans got the opportunity to see a Stormtrooper from under the mask. These previously faceless soldiers have been staples of the Star Wars franchise from the very beginning. Seeing a character exhibit human traits and characteristics is something that had never been seen before.

While Finn's past has yet to be explored, there are a number of questions pertaining to this First Order Stormtrooper and his past. It's assumed they are taken as children and conditioned to follow orders. Somehow during the early part of The Force Awakens, Finn was able to break that conditioning. Who he really is and where he comes from is a mystery. Whether that mystery is answered is a whole different debate.

Shaping The Franchise

Even though Finn represents one of the newer characters to the franchise, his potential is unlimited. His mysterious origins and possible abilities with the Force leaves a number of doors open for speculation. With the exception of Rey, Finn is easily the most important character of the sequel trilogy.

Finn's importance stems from the actual awakening of the Force itself. There's so many quick shots in the first moments of the film that it's easy to speculate on what characters are thinking and feeling.

While Rey is the focal point of the story, it's really Finn who moves things along; first with escaping the grasp of the First Order then it rescuing Rey. It's possible Finn's story will once again pick up with his journey to find Rey at the start of Episode VIII.
