Star Wars: 4 Reasons Why Rumoured Boba Fett Retcon Is A Bad Idea

4. It Contradicts George Lucas's Original Vision

It's a massive source of contention amongst some of the more purist fans and devoted Fett-ites, but the Boba Fett origin story we saw in Attack Of The Clones was more or less George Lucas's plan since the character was created. As was pointed out before on this website, the original character notes for Boba Fett was that he part of a line of genetic supersoldiers who went rogue and became a bounty hunter. This never came across onscreen in the Original Trilogy but give or take a few minor details, that was exactly the backstory he was given in Attack Of The Clones. George Lucas is one of the most revisionist filmmakers in history and continuity errors occasionally crop up but the main story and character details of the Star Wars films always stay the same. Boba Fett was basically a blank canvas when the Prequels came along so Lucas decided to bring his original idea out of mothballs and use it to answer the questions of where Fett came from. When someone takes over an established franchise, they have to take risks and try new things for it to work, but at the same time they need to respect what already exists. Boba Fett is a clone of Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett. That is an irrefutable fact of the Star Wars universe and if Disney does want to go ahead with a Boba Fett film, they should take the character as he stands and build from that. Not try to wipe the slate clean after twelve years of an established backstory.
