Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

28. Asteroid Field (The Empire Strikes Back)

Next year we're going to learn more about Han Solo, seeing the smuggler back before he joined the Rebellion. While that should show us even more of his skills - and maybe even the fabled Kessel Run - there's plenty of proof to him being the best pilot in the galaxy in the Original Trilogy, and not least making it through an asteroid field in Empire.

Despite Threepio's protests, Han enters into the asteroid belt to shake-off the TIE Fighters, and what follows is a stunning sequence of bravado and skill, and the Falcon deftly swoops through the crashing rocks, all set to John Williams' swooning score.

Star Wars is set to be the subject of its own theme park land, but if they want a blueprint for a ride look no further than this: it's a cinematic rollercoaster. Never tell him the odds.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
