Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

15. The Jedi Steps (The Force Awakens)

Star Wars Luke Rey
Lucasfilm

Where's Luke?

It's the question that persisted throughout the build-up to The Force Awakens... and then the entire movie itself. It's not until the very final moments that Mark Hamill appears, but it's a moment worth the wait.

Rey lands on Ahch-To and climbs the steps to where the Jedi stands, and the resultant meeting is one of the best Star Wars endings: Rey reaches out to hand him the lightsaber, and an old, grizzled Luke stares back.

It's a shot that's full of hope, mystery, longing, and awe, accompanied by Williams' gradually building score and the stunning setting of Skellig Michael.
