Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

12. Throne Room (The Last Jedi)

Star Wars The Last Jedi Rey Kylo Throne Room

Snoke’s Throne Room is an opulent setting for The Last Jedi’s high watermark moment, with everything that happens there having both a sense of grandeur and also buzzing with electricity.

There’s suspense as Rey is brought before the Supreme Leader, and then shock as Kylo kills his master in one of recent cinema’s most jaw-dropping twists - and then everything just explodes.

The movie eschews the traditional lightsaber-on-lightsaber duel, instead bringing its hero and villain together in a temporary truce to take on Snoke’s Praetorian Guards, and it’s one of the most bedazzling, intense, and incredibly choreographed fights in the whole saga.

The use of red, as it is throughout the film, is highly evocative, it’s a joy to see Guards in action, and there are some superb lightsaber moments (Rey’s drop and swipe, the throw to Kylo who puts it through the eye etc). It ends, however, not in triumph, but back with these two lonely characters, searching for something, being physically closer than ever and yet never further apart. The entire sequence is the most thrilling in the entire movie.
