Star Wars: 50 Greatest Moments - Ranked

2. The Trench Run (Star Wars)

Star Wars Death Star Trench Run
Lucasfilm

The climactic Death Star trench run in Star Wars is as close to perfect as an end battle gets.

There's so much to love here: the Rebels flying into action, with their various call-signs; Obi-Wan speaking to Luke through the Force; the arrogance of Grand Moff Tarkin; Vader arriving on the scene and taking the Rebels out; him eventually getting Luke in his sights, before Han arrives just in time to make the save with the Falcon; and of course Luke's shot.

Each - and that's only some of them - are moments of brilliance, but they're so expertly put together that it's really the whole thing you need, singling just one out wouldn't work when, as a piece, it's one of the most stunning sequences in cinema history. The Force is truly with it.

Now let's blow this thing and go home.
