Star Wars: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
2. Natalie Portman As Padmé Amidala
Natalie Portman sadly joins the ever-growing list of immensely talented actors who are completely wasted in the Star Wars saga. Portman has been delivering eye-catching performances ever since the age of twelve when she debuted in Leon, and it was only a few years later that she was cast in The Phantom Menace as Queen Amidala/Padmé. Her performance in the film, as well as in the following two, is unfortunately flat and leaves much to be desired.
As previously mentioned, the romantic chemistry between herself and co-star Hayden Christensen was sorely lacking. She stumbles her way through the cringe-worthy dialogue as best she can, but is ultimately unsuccessful. Not unlike Christensen, Natalie Portman manages to improve slightly in Revenge of the Sith, but even her death scene feels like a wasted opportunity and fails to pack the emotional punch that it should.
Luckily for Portman, she has not allowed the franchise to destroy her career and has continued to star in films over the years both dramatic and blockbusters. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Black Swan and is currently scheduled to return to the MCU in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder.
