Wanted to know who Snoke was in The Last Jedi? Well, unfortunately for you, that’s your bad. Because the folks over at Sar Wars and Disney - and director Rian Johnson - thought it was something that you just never needed to know.

Snoke’s character IS still important to the newest Star Wars saga, even if his lack of involvement has caused such outrage among many fans. He plays a pivotal role in the development of Kylo, particularly how Ben Solo decides to emerge from his mental prison to take control of the First Order. He also plays a role in Rey’s rise to Jedi, with Daisy Ridley's character showcasing the true extent of her powers when fighting Snoke’s praetorian guards shortly after his death.

And Johnson recently admitted he believes we got what we needed by saying:

"To me, first of all, it just wasn't a question that I felt very interested in, mostly because I didn't feel like the character of Rey would be interested in it. It's not Snoke's story, I guess, so in that way he's very similar to the Emperor in the first trilogy, where we know exactly what we need to know about him. He's the powerful, shadowy emperor behind Vader in the first one, and now Kylo in this one.
"So frankly it never occurred to me to suddenly stop the whole movie to explain his origins, because it wasn't really germane to the story.”

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
