Star Wars: 8 Stupid Changes In The Phantom Menace Special Edition

8. Force Speed Blur

During the opening fight on the Trade Federation cruiser, Nute Gunray manages to get the upper hand on the encroaching Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon by unleashing droidekas, destroyer droids that with their rolling capabilities, shield generators, machine laser guns and sci-fi "face" couldn't be more engineered to be a toy. These are too much for the Jedi (because toys) and they use Force Speed to get away, the only time in the movies this pretty useful skill is used. For the Blu-Ray, this scene was deemed so important it was altered; there was some motion blur added to the Force Speed, allegedly to make it look more realistic. How this one shot clearly irked George more than any other, necessitating a change, is beyond me; there's no later uses of the powers to make this a continuity adjustment. But here's the kicker; it's not even that much better. The Jedi move at the same speed and they look to have just been touched up by a very sensitive blur tool. If anything, the high blur makes it look less realistic than before.
