Star Wars: 9 Ideas For The New Trilogy & TV Show
7. Go Way Into The Future
Focusing solely on what's canon, Star Wars isn't really that big in terms of timeline. It's a vast galaxy with untold potential, but from The Phantom Menace to The Last Jedi it's rougly 60 years, which is a drop in the ocean when you consider there are stories dating back thousands of years.
It'd be great to see a project - and this one could work well on film, especially with Rian Johnson's love of sci-fi - go way into the future instead. We've seen the Empire fight the Rebels, and will (presumably) have some conclusion to the Resistance vs First Order by 2019. But the new trilogy exists in the shadow of the original; Rebels and the announced anthologies (including the rumoured Obi-Wan one) stick around the period between Episodes III and IV.
This is a chance to completely break free and leave no trace of that; a whole new world, one that has forgotten these stories and has a completely different structure, political system, powers, and cultures to explore.
