Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Awesome Characters We Don't Want To See

Jabba Hutt As J.J. Abrams sets out to make Star Wars Episode VII, there are two possible paths he might take. He could keep the George Lucas universe pretty much intact, revisiting the people and places we've seen before. Disney would no doubt prefer this, because moviegoers like familiarity and it's safer to stick with what has worked in the past. On the other hand, Abrams could veer off in an unexpected direction, showing us characters and worlds that are utterly new to us. Which trajectory will he choose? Abrams' handling of the two most recent Star Trek films doesn't offer much enlightenment. In 2009, Abrams was praised for reinvigorating the dormant sci-fi franchise, but with this year's "Star Trek Into Darkness," he was criticized for drawing heavily upon the plot of an earlier Trek movie. As fans, we have no idea what's going to happen in the next Star Wars film, but we can voice an opinion on which characters we'd like to see in it. Let's go ahead and dismiss Jar Jar Binks right now, since 99% of the people who saw Episode I despise him. Yet there are many other characters in the Star Wars canon who were perfectly fine €“ awesome, even €“ within their own context, but who may have now outlived their usefulness. We salute the contributions of these characters while simultaneously pleading with J.J. Abrams not to dredge them up again.
