Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Things To Expect From JJ Abrams

2. He's Certainly Up To The Challenge

In the far reaches of my soul, I'm convinced that former Simpsons man and Pixar genius Brad Bird would have been the perfect choice to helm the latest installment in the world's most famous movie franchise. Personally, I felt that Bird's Pixar films displayed exactly the right kind of blended action, sentimentality and goofy fun that would have made for a seriously good Star Wars entry. Then he did Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and showed us all he was a freakin' great with live-action stuff, too - but perhaps even that wasn't on the right kind of scale for a project of these sorts. Abrams, however, has proven that he can handle a blockbuster of gargantuan proportions with his work on Star Trek. Not only that, but with one that's set in space, too. And despite the fact that it's somewhat strange for a director to go from a Star Trek movie to a Star Wars movies, you can't argue with the evidence: J.J. Abrams is "technically" up to the challenge - he's proven that. Whether he pulls it off or not this time 'round, well...
