Star Wars Episode 7 - 7 Composers Who Could Replace John Williams

3. Alan Silvestri

Why Him? Can you name another composer from the 1980's that left his mark on film music in a big way, other than John Williams? If you can, chances are that composer is Alan Silvestri. His work on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Predator and my personal favorite movie of all time, Back to the Future, stands second only to Williams in terms of recognizable work from that era. In fact, since he's long been seen as playing second fiddle to Williams' first chair violin (strained metaphor?), he might want a shot at taking on the themes of the big man himself, to finally earn the mainstream respect I feel he deserves. Some might say that he's largely laid low for the better part of the last 15 years since Forrest Gump, and up until last year, I'd have been inclined to agree with you. However, with his score for Captain America: The First Avenger - the best, most memorable one from Marvel's Phase One films - and then the score for The Avengers this year, he's proven that he's still got the ability to turn in crowd pleasing work in the old school style. This is what Star Wars needs.
